“Hershey Felder as Irving Berlin” made its Midwest premiere on Nov. 3, at the Royal George Theatre. Following the smash opening before a capacity crowd, Felder hosted a party for friends, supporters and production staff at Trattoria Gianni. Among those in attendance were WBBM-TV news anchor Jim Williams, Chicago Bears Board Member Michael McCaskey and former State Sen. William Marovitz.
Felder, a master storyteller and pianist, takes the audience on a musical journey through the great American songwriter’s life from his arrival in the United States from Russia to his passing at 101 years of age in 1989.
The show, directed by Trevor Hay, features more than two dozen of Berlin’s greatest songs featuring “Alexander’s Ragtime Band”, “Puttin’ on the Ritz” and the most popular song of all-time “White Christmas”. Berlin wrote more than 1500 songs that included 252 Top-10 hits and 25 No. 1 songs.
